Let's suppose you operate a store that has very simple rules for shipping costs: if the customer wants their order to be rushed to them, you charge a flat rate of $9.95 for shipping. Otherwise, you charge $5.95. Setting up this type of shipping is quite simple.
Example 6.1. Charging Flat Rates for Shipping
- Navigate to the
Shipping Configuration -> Shipping Methodsscreen. - Click "Add New Record" to add the first shipping method, for standard, 5.95 shipping.
Use "Standard" for the name of the method, "STD" for the code, leave Minimum Charge at 0, but change Base Charge to 5.95.

- Under Method Type, select "Flat Rate".
- Click "Add New Record" to add the new method to the store.
- Now add the next shipping method, for rushed, 9.95 shipping.
- Use "Rushed" for the name of the method, "RSH" for the code, leave Minimum Charge at 0, but change Base Charge to 9.95.
- Under Method Type, again select "Flat Rate".
- Click "Add New Record" to add the new method to the store.
- Navigate back to the
Shipping Configuration -> Shipping Methodsscreen. - You should see both of your methods listed in the table at the center of the screen. Customers will see both options during checkout and can select either Standard (5.95) shipping, or Rushed (9.95) shipping for their order.
